Do women ever grow up
I was in my favorite coffee shop this morning. It was busier than normal. Too busy for my taste. I am used to being there during the quite part of the day- to pay my bills, balance my check book, read, etc. It is like my office away from my house (as is it for many)
It was loud today however, too loud for my reading - even with my mp3 player. I gave in and just sat for a moment trying to pick up on the conversations - listen without gawking sort of thing. (you know that, I know you do)
There were three older (70ish) ladies two tables over from me. Listening to their conversation ended up being quite hilarious and a bit eye opening. Their conversation was basically that of a group of thirty year old woman mixed in with some complaints about technology from the one. Honestly, do we as women never grow up and move on from the same gripes? Husbands, kids, family, one was quite hung up on the de-personalization of humanity due to Facebook..... can we not move past the same thing and find something better to talk about? As I said, it was both good for a giggle and eye -opening.
When I am 70(ish) and hopefully able to hang out with my "coffee chickas" I will make it my goal to bring up interesting things to talk about.... a bit more philosophical. I will try to get my group to use their experience and wisdom to pull out a decent conversation.... like-> do you think that major events (births, deaths, tragedies, etc) define us as a person? make us who we are?
However, I probably will just be bitching about my husband and kids.

nothing new under the sun, eh? Perhaps, when we're that age, we can grab coffee on the far side of the sun, anjd bitch about how noisy the pulse-drive on the ship is :)
Universal indeed, this human condition...the Beatles had it right...All you need is love! So count me in for a good bitch session and if requested, I'll try to add some interesting tidbits...did you know a group of hummingbirds is called a charm? Charming huh?
Hell I'm just trying to make 40!!
If I get to 70 LOOK OUT!
Well my dear, I'm just shy of 60 and I am 30 in my mind, so no. You will be who you are, only your body parts will all have headed south. And FB is depersonalizing humanity. : )
I guess blogger says it all about me as my word verification is 'borre'!
Ha, can you imagine what the conversation would have been if it were 70ish men! :)
I sure HOPE not! Gah, I don't want to be philosophical, I want to feel kinship with other women and solve world peace!
It's what I enjoy now... and I hope my girls and I can giggle and laugh and solve all the world problems when we are 70 also! ;)
LOL I had to laugh at this post! I had the same thought yesterday (getting my nails done) Women complaining to each other about the third absent friend. They talked like the little backstabbers I remember back in hiugh school. Guess girls never do grow up!
I am sure you will be the best 70(ish)conversationalist ever (if that is a word). I am quite sure you will be bitching about your husband since you will have remarried by then. I am sure I won't make it that long. Like Sage, I too am just trying to make it to 40.
The more things change the more they stay the same. LOL
At least they were not talking about their illnesses! That is what I hate. I maybe will do the same thing but I hope not. My friends and I do a lot of laughing and talking about children and remodeling their homes, and where they are going to go next. We stay away from politics and religion as that is an argument waiting to happen that no one wins. I hope I can find out what your conversation will be when you get to around that age. I won't make it until you are 70 but I hope to make it until you are 60. Love you more.
