This is worth clicking on to "big it" and taking the time to read. Don't read with a hot beverage in your mouth - you've been warned. I am not responsible for spit coffee on your screen!
You know what I love about road trips? You come back a changed person if you are the same when you return... you did it wrong.
New places, new experiences, new tastes and smells.
My favorite...different people.
The planning, and packing situating, and organizing all becomes worth it when you pile into your vehicle - a hot cup of home brewed coffee on your lap, the sun rising in your face. Followed by a day with miles behind you and the sun setting on your back as you have a cup of coffee from a random gas station you stopped to fill up at. The possibilities endless.
Life is lived in the small moments between the planned ones. I never remember the route we plan, the things we predetermined we would see... no, it is always the detours that took us in circles, or the best pie ever at the restaurant we HAD to stop at for a bathroom emergency. The brakes going out in the mountains (twice) or our fuel line coming off on our way up to the Black Hills..... yes these are the things that make a trip memorable.
Much like life my friends. It is the unplanned events that seem to be where the memories are. Those are the times you remember....
What unplanned memory will you make?
"Lost Highway"
In my rearview mirror My life is getting clearer The sunset sighs and slowly disappears These trinkets once were treasureLife changes like the weather You grow up, grow old or hit the road 'round here So I drive, watching white lines passing by With my plastic dashboard Jesus, waiting there to greet us
Hey, hey, I finally found my waySay goodbye to yesterday Hit the gas there ain't no brakes on the lost highway Yeah I'm busting loose, I'm letting go Out on this open road It's independence day on this lost highway
I don't know where I'm going But I know where I've been Now I'm afraid of going back again So I drive, years and miles are flying by And waiting there to great us Is my plastic dashboard Jesus
Oh patron saint of lonely souls To tell this boy which way to go Guide the car, you got the keys Farewell to mediocrity Kicking off the cruise-control And turning up the radio Got just enough religion And a half tank of gas come on, let's go
I finally found my way Say goodbye to yesterday Hit the gas there ain't no brakes on the lost highway Yeah I'm busting loose, I'm letting go Out on this open road It's independence day on this lost highway

This time of year brings on a different mind set in people. The transformation is a bit frightening really. How normal people can turn into high stress, recipe hounding, pushing / shoving black Friday shopping, cleaning, decorating, tinsel draping, potato mashing, panicking, credit card maxing, crying messes is beyond me!?
I shouldn't say that - I have been that person in years past. I have been that person with teeny babies to boot. I can't do it anymore, even if my babes are bigger now. It isn't worth it to me.
For years I watched every single episode of Martha Stewart Living. I wanted to be her. I wanted my house to be Martha worthy. I wanted my towels to be perfectly folded and my closets perfectly organized. My holiday preparations led me to the edge of sanity. Hot glueing pine cones and ribbons to the outside of a Christmas gift may have been my breaking point.
Then something amazing happened. I realized that Martha was no better than I was - she was just richer with a production crew and an amazing staff. Then she went to prison .... and I realized I was right.
So. Lately. As the holidays roll around I have taken a step back. Not panicked. Tried to keep things in perspective. Last year I went one step further. I sat back, I didn't say all that much (I know - impossible if you know me), I just observed and enjoyed. It was wonderful.

This year I think I will follow Martha's lead though.... and just drink my way through the season. Maybe if I slip a little something something in to my coffee no one will notice?!
What don't you like about yourself at the Holidays and what do you hope will be different this year? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notice the mess in the kitchen on the click thru? Yeah - Martha I ain't (lately)
We played this awhile back. It was a lot of fun, and seems like a fabulous thing to do for a Monday. Also this week I will start another Ask Jules- I have questions slowly trickling in from the last time that are still unanswered. So, it is time to get creative. (and to start thinking of your questions for Ask Jules.)
Alright - here is the game.
I start the story with a sentence. Then the first person that comments continues the story- taking it in what ever direction they desire. Ending after about four sentences.
You do not complete the story - you just continue it. Then the next person to come along and comment picks up the story where it has been left off and keeps telling the story (again in which ever crazy direction you want).... so forth and so on.
Here is the start of the adventure story:
Daniel gave a polite cough. It didn’t attract the attention he wanted. He cleared his throat, took a deep breath and reached for the bell. It was now or never. The ferry left in 35 minutes. He needed to get his ....
Yes, julochka- this set is edited.... I couldn't resist
There is a game from my past. It was always good for a laugh or two. I thought on yet another grey (googgle, I will spell gray as grey if I want to ....) day that we could play today - all of you and me. It might still be good for a giggle or two still.
Alright - here is the game.
I start the story with a sentence. Then the first person that comments continues the story taking it in what ever direction they desire. Ending after a few sentences.
You do not complete the story - you just continue it. Then the next person to come along and comment picks up the story where it has been left off and keeps telling the story (again in which ever crazy direction you want).... so forth and so on.
Then today (Wednesday) I will finish the story by posting everyone's comments together and ending it. Then you can check back tomorrow for the finished product. Or if you are sitting in your pajamas and slippers drinking tea/lattes and ignoring work while you blog all day then follow the progress through out the day.
If you think you can up with something better, then do something about it. Don't just grumble get those fingers walking and leave a comment to take the story in the direction you want...
Got it? Ok good - Here are the starting sentences:
The e-mail on her Blackberry (that's for you Adam) had arrived just as Jasmine was slipping on her favorite jacket. It was the news she had been waiting for. Without a second thought she headed straight for the airfield.
As Jasmine settled down for the long journey ahead she thought of the contents of the e-mail. A fantastic mystery. You will not believe it !" the voice had said. Jasmine wasn't sure what lay ahead for her when she arrived at the island. The next few hours would soon tell ................
