This week - Update

This week I will be the traditional mom - the mom I avoid being - the mom whose van is more like a taxi then a mode of transportation - the mom who has to take her kids to activities.

This week we have swimming lessons.

I don't like that this takes up a good part of our day. It wouldn't have to - but I am a slow mover in the mornings. So, by the time we get going and to lessons nothing has really been accomplished in the morning, then off to lessons, then over to the school lunch program (it is free and fabulous!) then home. It is well past noon going onto 1 o'clock by this time. Now, you may know that I typically nap at this point. So, now we are at two in the afternoon.... which really means I only have 1 hour before I have to start supper.

whaaa whaaaa I know. It is only two weeks, I know. But, this is my blog and I will pout if I want to! Maybe it is just the fact that I will have to go in public and act like a real person?

Do you /did you like running your kids around - am I the only evil one?

Update - we are back and we all actually had a good time. We even had enough energy to make it to the library and sign up for the summer reading program and get a big ole bag of new books to enjoy in the evenings. Then off to record a radio ad and home again.... now- let's see if I can handle 7 more week days of this.

Dear evilJules, I mean humanJules....it's oneof the parts of parenting that is the hardest and the best. Your kids are a captive audience in the car...an opportunity? I remember the incessant chatter almost driving me mad...and yes I had only one. I can only tell you my heart actually ached, jumped in my chest and squeezed really hard when I saw a mom and a daughter (about 11ish) standing waiting at the pool. The girl wasin front of her mom leaning into her while they waited...Mom was casually hugging her. So natural and calm...hmmm maybe I should blog!

captive audience in the car? hahahahahhahahahahah
oh my there is so much noise, arguing, general havoc in the car that there is no room for thought much less conversation. Maybe I will call you when we are driving so you can hear :)

If I was a mom, which I am not, which I'm not sure if I can be...I'd be evil, I'm sure of it. So, I have no qualms with your comments. I'm sure you aren't evil, mothers never things they are doing enough. My bf has a daughter who is 13. Not sure how he runs around all the time, dragging her here, driving her friends around. I'd be off the deep end. From your last post - I can't handle this at all (except when it's me because I am the only one who can calm me down) -- "the emotional, moody, friend issue, hormonal upheavals, attitude at life-ness that girls possess". I'll throw one in - girls that don't seem to know how to clean and don't listen when their father says "don't put the nail polish/remove on the dresser"...5 minutes later you hear "Dad..I spilled a little nail polish on the dresser before you told me not to and used the remover to try to fix it..." Ugh, girls that don't listen.

I'm a girl, but I swear I wasn't like that ..haha

Apparently I cannot type either.

I hate the stress of trying to get the kids to various activities - especially during the school year. I try to keep the extra stuff to a minimum - I think a lot of kids are overscheduled anyway.

I considered swimming lessons a must, though.

"Record a radio ad?" You say it like, "pick up a loaf of bread"! I want more info!

Oh suck it up... you won't even have to shower if you jump in the pool too so just think of the time saving part there... then there's a lunch you don't have to prepare although there's no such thing as a free lunch. You could stretch nap time a little and then because it's summer you can either eat out, grill out, forget it all together or invite yourself to someone else's house to cook out!! The kids don't need bathing because they have gone swimming and they don't need to brush hair and teeth 'cos it's summer. You don't need to brush your hair either 'cos it's summer and forget laundry.. live in the bathing suit, it gets a wash in the pool everyday... now don't you feel better??? it's ok to be a slob 'cos ...yes you guessed it...it's summer!!!!

this is when the BOSE headphones that eliminate noise really help.

I was the bad mom. I did not haul my son around. We lived in the city and he started taking the bus when he was 10. Most everything he needed to do he could do by riding his bike or taking the bus. I never would make it in this day and time of parenting, I'm definitely not suited to the job. You are not evil, you are good. : )
