Frugal Luxuries

Cabin #5 in Naturita CO. Illustrated by D. Daley

We used to live in a little cabin in SW Colorado. My neighbor and best friend gave me a lovely book to look at. Frugal Luxuries . (This was pre-kids.... oh the time I had to enjoy the simple pleasures - like how a breeze through the window blew the sheers...sigh)

Years later my dear friend has moved from SW Colorado back to the Denver area and now she has once again relocated to Naturita to the same cabins we lived in years ago. In her packing she found this book and sent it to me.

Anyway... There are some lovely ideas in this book and I wanted to share one I plan on executing today.

After making a pan of lasagna for my family's visit yesterday I ran out of italian seasoning (from the store). Now in need of this seasoning I remembered an excerpt from this book.

From the book Frugal Luxuries (by Tracey McBride):

Italian Seasoning
1 1/2 tsp dried, crushed oregano
1tsp salt
1/4 tsp dried, crushed thyme leaves
1/2 tsp garlic powder (not garlic salt)
1-2 tbsp brown sugar
2 1/2 tbsp dried onion flakes
2 tbsp dried parsley flakes
1 bay leaf
Combine all ingredients and store in a small plastic bag. Measure out 3 heaping teaspoons per recipe, and add the bay leaf during cooking. Or quadruple the recipe and store in a apothecary jar (without the bay leaf) add 1 bay leaf at time of cooking.

Enjoy this idea and for many more great ideas check out the frugal luxuries blog

Thank you for such a fun find today! I was so thrilled to receive a comment from the author of the book I noted today. I talked about it all day! (to the three people I spoke with today! ;)

Thank you again for the comment, but for such a lovely book
